While primarily employing Western artistic techniques, he seeks to apply elements of Eastern aesthetics, particularly Korean aesthetics, to his works. He reflects the Joseon-era philosophy of "Gomeibulru Huayibulchi (儉而不陋華而不侈)" which means "simple yet not shabby, splendid yet not extravagant"— in his works, aiming to express a neutral and restrained aesthetic that avoids both excessive and impoverished aesthetics. Though similar to Western minimalism, Eastern aesthetics place greater emphasis on practicality, combining functionality and beauty. He intends to bridge the artistic gap between East and West, naturally introducing Korean aesthetics to the Western world.
Additionally, another symbolic element that appears in his works is the staircase. A staircase is a significant architectural feature that is both practical and symbolic of ascension and power. In ancient civilizations, stairs were often used to symbolize power and religious intent. Metaphorically, the staircase conveys the concept of "ascending," evoking a sense of expectation and curiosity in the viewer, suggesting that something true may be reached. The repetition and unity of the stairs create visual harmony within the space, carrying various meanings as a symbolic architectural element.

이하린은 다양한 표준 색상을 사용해 배경의 분위기를 만들고, 각기 다른 타임라인을 배경색으로 표현하는 작업을 한다. 그의 작품은 모노크롬과 구상적인 방향으로 표현되며, 그림의 배경 색상과 창문 프레임은 관객이 한눈에 형태를 파악하는 것을 피하면서 탐구 과정을 유도한다. 이 작업은 중복된 공간과 주변 환경의 연결을 배제하고, 작품을 독립적인 오브제로 만들어 그 자체로 공간의 일부가 되도록 한다. 이러한 접근은 도가의 비움 사상에 뿌리를 두며, 물질적 집착을 벗어나 진정한 의미의 상태를 추구하는 과정과 맞닿아 있다.
중점적으론 서양의 예술 기법을 작업하지만, 한국 미학에 대한 관심을 바탕으로 동양의 미학을 작품에 적용하고자 한다. 특히 조선시대의 철학인 ʻ검이불루 화이불치 (儉而不陋華而不侈)’를 작품에 반영하여, 과한 미학도 빈약한 미학도 아닌 중립적이고 절제된 미학을 표현한다. 서양의 미니멀리즘과도 유사하지만, 동양의 미학은 보다 실용적인 측면을 강조하며, 실용성과 심미성을 함께 담아낸다. 그는 동서양의 예술적 차이를 줄이며, 한국 미학을 자연스럽게 서양에 소개하고자 하는 의도를 가지고 있다.
또한 일부 최근작에는 계단이란 또 다른 상징적인 요소가 등장한다. 계단은 실용적이면서도 상승성과 권력을 상징하는 중요한 건축적 요소로, 고대 문명에서도 권력과 종교적 의도를 상징하며 사용되었다. 계단은 은유적으로 ʻ상승’이라는 개념을 전달하며, 관객에게 무언가 진정한 것에 도달할 수 있다는 기대와 호기심을 불러일으킨다. 이러한 계단의 반복성과 통일감은 공간 속에서 시각적인 조화를 이루며, 건축의 상징적 요소로써 다양한 의미를 내포하고 있다.
