This evolution led to the derivation of The Magazine, a project that fuses the architectural austerity of Borderless with the fluid visual language of fashion. During a period working as a graphic and branding designer in the fashion industry, Lee encountered mood boards, sample garments, and comp card photography, prompting him to see fashion not as a separate domain but as an extension of spatial aesthetics. Drawing on Gilles Deleuze’s concept of deterritorialization, he began to explore how painting and fashion could collapse into one another—each destabilizing its traditional frame of reference. In this new series, Haleen invites models—recruited via social media—to style themselves in outfits that organically resonate with the minimalist tone of his earlier works. These sessions, photographed in natural light and everyday settings, serve not as polished editorials but as portraits of fashion in its lived, self-directed form.

Lee then reinterprets the photographs through painting, extracting the material aura of garments and their surrounding environments. This dual process—image and reinterpretation—recasts clothing as an objet d’art, aligned with Martin Heidegger’s idea that things are not merely functional, but ontological carriers of meaning. Typological composition reappears here as well, as the works are grouped and sequenced according to shared characteristics: frontality, openness, monochrome structure.
